Australia was treated to the rugged, raspy and roaring genius that is Ben Caplan earlier this year in Sydney and Melbourne and at Bluesfest, where he was hailed a standout performer and earned himself a bevy of adoring fans. Bluesfest touring is thrilled to announce the return of the bearded and brilliant Ben Caplan for a series of special shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle and performances at the Woodford Folk Festival and Sydney Festival.

Halifax (Canada)’s Ben Caplan is to folklore what smoke is to bourbon. Perfectly coupled. His song writing is bold both in range and ferocity. Fuelled by a quality of melodrama and powerful lyricism, it’s the romance and the bravery his voice that gives Ben Caplan a truly innovative and experimental artistry. A sound that bridges the gap between controlled composition and unruly passion.

Breaking between guitar, banjo, piano, and melodica, Ben Caplan’s stage show is almost reminiscent of a burly and bearded Freddy Mercury; a raging, strong, and exploratory songwriter, it’s the Blues in his Soul and the heart in your chest pounding as one that makes Ben Caplan an act not to be missed. Similar to that of Tom Waits or Seasick Steve, his growling spirit and rhapsodic energy in his live show produce an elegant cacophony which is rapidly gaining him global attention.
the impressive Ben Caplan...delivered one of the most vocally accomplished performances of the festival.”– The Music (on his 2013 Bluesfest Performance)

Castlemaine’s D.D Dumbo a.k.a. Oliver Perry and Melbourne based troubadour Harry Healy has been announced as the special guests for Ben Caplan and The Casual Smokers show at The Northcote Social Club on the 3rd of January 2014. D. D Dumbo has just replaced Vance Joy on the Meredith Music Festival lineup and is one to watch "What makes [him] all the more exciting is that it also sounds like nothing else being made in Australia right now” The Guardian UK. Harry Healy has spent the last 15 years playing countless shows in venues up and down the East Coast (with the odd overseas adventure) and gaining many adoring fans along the way.

Special guest Allon has been added to the Newcastle show at Lizottes on Tuesday 7th January 2014.
