“…Reggae’s first global superstar” - Rolling Stone
Reggae Legend, the honourable Jimmy Cliff is a two time Grammy Award Winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and has collaborated with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello and Annie Lennox. Jimmy Cliff’s role in the 1972 Jamaican film, The Harder They Come, introduced reggae to the world.
Then there are the hits such as ‘Many Rivers To Cross’, ‘Wonderful World, Beautiful People’, ‘Sitting In Limbo’,‘You Can Get It If You Really Want’, and ‘The Harder They Come’ that has led to his songs being performed and recorded by Willie Nelson, New Order, Bruce Springsteen and Cher (among many others). Paul Simon featured Cliff’s 1970 song ‘Vietnam’ in his 2011 concerts and Dylan called it the greatest protest song ever written. Not one to shy away from a cover himself, Jimmy Cliff’s version of Johnny Nash’s ‘I can See Clearly Now’ in 1993 catapulted him onto the mainstream pop charts in the US once again.
With a legacy stretching back almost 50 years, Jimmy Cliff has remained one of the prime movers and continuing shapers of modern music, his most recent album Rebirth (2012), was produced by none other than Tim Armstrong, front man of American Punk-Rock band Rancid who has cited Cliff as his most admired artist.
We agree with Tim, Jimmy Cliff will be sure to blow you away - don't miss this legend in action!
Jimmy will be joined by REBELUTION at The Metro in Sydney, who are bringing their chilled reggae vibes to Australia for the very first time!
"From extended solo sections and acoustic performances, to auxiliary percussion and blaring saxophone harmonies... this concert was one of the most fun I have been to in a long time!" Music Bailout
California’s Rebelution will be bringing their chilled reggae-roots beats to Australia for the bands very first Australian tour.
Beginning as reggae enthusiasts in the college town of Santa Barbara, Rebelution quickly grew to the success story they have become, playing over 100 shows a year around the world, owning the stage at major festivals and selling out renowned venues such as Red Rocks and the Santa Barbara Bowl. The most impressive part is that they have achieved all of this without backing from any major label or media push.
Rebelution’s latest album Count Me In (2014) debuted on the Billboard Top 200 at #14 and marked the band’s third consecutive #1 Reggae Album. Despite all the accolades, it is all about the music for the band as guitarist/singer Eric Rachmany explains; “Rebelution is a great example of four friends who got together to play music for the fun of it, and still do that today. We just play music that we really enjoy.”
