This coming April, Chugg Entertainment and Bluesfest Touring are pleased to confirm the east coast of Australia will transform into a boogie wonderland when soul-funk superstars & 6 time Grammy award winners, EARTH WIND & FIRE (EWF) tour Australia for the very first time.
How about this for facts? EWF have sold 75 million records. The band had 7 top 10 US singles and 7 top 10 albums. EARTH WIND & FIRE are the no. 1 selling black band and the no. 7 top selling US band of all time.
Arriving on Wednesday 4th April at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre, the tour then heads north to Sydney for a show at the Hordern Pavilion (Reserved Seating) on Thursday 5th April, before hitting Byron Bay to take the stage at Bluesfest on Friday 6th April.
EARTH WIND & FIRE took the world of music by storm with their infectious genre-bending musical vision. With a foundation in funk, they also incorporated jazz, smooth soul, gospel, pop, rock & roll, psychedelia, blues, folk, African music and eventually a dip into disco - creating a sound destined to be imitated by many groups, but never successfully duplicated by any.
Beginning as a songwriting team named The Salty Peppers in Chicago, Illinois in 1969 by brothers Verdine and Maurice White, the band quickly evolved; Maurice’s astrological sign, Sagittarius, has a primary elemental quality of Fire and seasonal qualities of Earth and Air. Based on this, and following a move to Los Angeles, he changed the band’s name to EARTH WIND & FIRE and added guitars, reeds, a horn section, piano and more vocals, completing the then ten-man lineup.
Celebrating over 40 years of global successes, across several lineups changes EWF features the sublime Philip Bailey on lead vocals alongside original members, Verdine White (bass) and Ralph Johnson. The band have won six Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards, as well as being inducted into both the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall Of Fame.
American artists who have stated that EWF are their favourite band ever include Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Dionne Warwick. Philip Bailey has had his own major hits like “Walking on the Chinese Wall” and “Easy Lover” in collaboration with Phil Collins.
Rolling Stone have declared that they “changed the sound of black pop.” The Guardian UK (July 2010) Called them“One of pop's most undersung musical heroes, whose cross-pollination of funk, jazz and disco quietly influenced everyone from Public Enemy to DJ Shadow.” Furthering their industry praise, less than two weeks ago EWF were honoured with a tribute at the Soul Train Awards in Atlanta, alongside late rapper Heavy D and Gladys Knight. Don’t miss the chance to dance along to EARTH WIND & FIRE hits like “Shining Star”, “All About Love”, “That’s The Way Of The World”, “Sing A Song”, “September”, “Boogie Wonderland”, “After The Love Has Gone” and many more.
Their welcome return to Australian shores is certain to be a great party – don’t miss out.
